Whirlpool Dryer Heating Element Troubleshooting: A Frustrating Journey

I started by replacing the Hi-Limit Thermostat, thinking it might be the culprit. However, after checking continuity on the old one and finding it okay, I realized that wasn't the solution. It was then that I realized the thermal fuse had blown again.

I replaced the thermal fuse and thermistor (8577274) next to it, thinking this might resolve the issue. But when I ran another load, I encountered the same problem: the heating element turned on even in air dry mode or other modes.

In my search for a solution, I discovered that many people had experienced similar issues with their Whirlpool dryers. It was then that I decided to thoroughly clean all the venting from lint trap to outside, as clogged vents can cause restricted airflow conditions and lead to issues like the ones I was experiencing.

After cleaning the vents, I entered diagnostic mode and found an F30 error code indicating a 'restricted airflow condition.' However, when I pressed and held the start button, it would click as if it wanted to start, but wouldn't. It was then that I realized the issue wasn't just with the heating element or thermal fuse.

My wife later reported that the dryer vent had become clogged where it exited the house (the little flap). This was the final piece of the puzzle, and once we cleared the blockage, our Whirlpool dryer began functioning normally again.
